THINGS TO KNOW: Overeating on weekends

From the May 2010 University of California, Berkeley Wellness letter.

If you're trying to lose weight, watch out for overeating on weekends.  People eat about 100 extra calories a day on weekends, on average, with the greatest increases among people age 25 to 35 and those who are very overweight, according to a recent study in the Journal of Public Policy & Marketing.  Bigger breakfasts are usually the largest contributor to extra weekend calories.  The study also found that four out of five people "bracket" a day's food intake to some extent, so that larger meals tend to be followed by smaller ones, or vise versa, but that this balancing act works less well on weekends and holidays.

With so many reports and studies claiming

to improve your health and fitness, it's hard

to know what to believe.  This page will

report and update "just the facts" about the

current health and fitness issues, helping you

to make some sense of them all.
